Meet Ramon Medina

For the past 30 years, the halls of South Salem and McKay high schools, the district’s administrative office and most recently, Waldo Middle School has been made extra special by the special touch and care of one caring member of the Salem-Keizer team, that’s veteran custodian Ramon Medina.

You come to learn in a school, and the environment you learn in has to be welcoming. You want to come into some place warm when it’s cold and I can control that here and check our boilers and keep the school tidy. It’s for the kids' and the staff’s comfort.
Ramon Medina, Custodian, Waldo Middle School

First working as a custodian at South in 1994 as an opportunity to support his family, Ramon has led custodial efforts across our district and is now leading the team at Waldo Middle School. Ramon shares how his work in schools is more than just a job, it’s a unique opportunity and responsibility to create a sense of “home” for students and staff.

Holding the Golden Broom

Touching the hearts of many students and staff throughout the district over the past decade has left Ramon with no shortage of accolades to his name. This past fall, Ramon was awarded the “Golden Broom” award through the district’s custodial department.

At Waldo, we are incredibly fortunate to have Ramon Medina as our day custodian. Ramon’s exceptional attention to detail and quick response when a situation arises keep Waldo running smoothly every day! His work and dedication to our students and staff is greatly appreciated and does not go unnoticed.
