Benefits of the Migrant Program / Los beneficios del Programa Migrante

For Students

• Migrant specialists routinely monitor grades and attendance patterns and coordinate support services for students based on need.
• Students are awarded the opportunity to attend field trips to visit colleges and universities in Oregon.
• Students are awarded the opportunity to attend leadership conferences and institutes.
• Students are provided access and information related to College Assistance Migrant Programs (CAMP) and High School Equivalency Programs (HEP) at CCC/OSU.
• We provide two preschool programs to help children prepare for kindergarten.

Para los estudiantes

• Los especialistas del Programa Migrante se ubican en las escuelas para ayudar a los estudiantes a lograr éxito académico y socio emocional al igual que prepararlos para graduarse de la preparatoria y asistir a la universidad.
• Los estudiantes asisten a excursiones a universidades en Oregon.
• Los estudiantes tienen la oportunidad de asistir a conferencias e institutos de liderazgo.
• Se provee acceso a los estudiantes a los Programas Migrantes de ayuda para asistir a la universidad (CAMP, por sus siglas de inglés) y a los programas para obtener un diploma de Equivalencia a Preparatoria (HEP, por sus siglas en inglés) en CCC y OSU.
• Proveemos dos programas de educación preescolar para preparar a los niños para el kínder.

Health & Other Social Services

• Children between the ages of 3-11 who are currently enrolled in the Migrant Program receive accident insurance free of charge.
• Students are referred to medical, dental, vision and counseling services as needed.
• Families are provided with information about resources in the community.
• Free lunch at school is available for eligible migrant students.

Salud y otros servicios sociales

•  Los niños entre los 3 y los 21 años de edad que están registrados actualmente en el Programa Migrante, reciben el beneficio de un seguro contra accidentes.
• Cuando es necesario, los estudiantes son referidos para recibir servicios médicos, dentales, visión y asesoramientos.
• Se provee a las familias de información en cuanto a los recursos en nuestra comunidad.
• Los estudiantes que califican para nuestro programa reciben almuerzo gratuito en su escuela.

For Parents

• Migrant specialists may serve as interpreters and liaisons between parents and school staff.
• Migrant specialists plan and coordinate parent meetings during the academic year on topics pertaining to mental health, academics, and college preparedness.

Para los padres

• Los especialistas migrantes pueden servir como intérpretes y enlace entre los padres y el personal escolar.
• Las reuniones para padres se llevan a cabo en las escuelas durante el año escolar regular para informar a los padres sobre diferentes temas relacionados con el bienestar emocional, académico del estudiante y la preparación para la universidad.

Summer School

Migrant students are automatically eligible for our summer school services. Our summer school program has a math and literacy focus, in addition to promoting positive self-image through the integration of culture lessons. Culture lessons are designed and implemented by bilingual teachers who have an in-depth understanding of our unique student population

Escuela de Verano

Los estudiantes migrantes son elegibles para participar en la escuela de verano del programa migrante. Este tiene como enfoque las áreas de lecto escritura, matemáticas y clases de cultura. Las lecciones de cultura son desarrolladas por maestros bilingües y biculturales quienes conocen a profundidad esta población de estudiantes

How do Children Qualify for the Program?

• Children must move with the parent/guardian across district boundaries to work in agricultural-related work within the last three years.
• Children may also qualify by joining the parent/guardian within one year of the parent’s qualifying move.
• Children may also qualify on their own, but an adult has to sign if children are under 14 years of age.
• The most common types of qualifying and agricultural-related work in our area are:
  • Nurseries
  • Fisheries
  • Dairies
  • Canneries
  • Hatcheries
  • Reforestation
• Children will receive migrant services for a period of three consecutive years, or until they turn 22 years of age, or they receive a high school diploma/GED

¿Cómo son eligibles los niños para este programa?

• En los últimos 3 años, el niño(a) debe haberse mudado con los padres o tutores fuera de las delimitaciones de nuestro distrito para trabajar en una actividad relacionada con la agricultura.
• El niño(a) puede ser elegible si también se mudó con los padres o tutores dentro de un año después de que éstos hubiesen hecho el traslado, por el cual son elegibles.
• El niño(a) puede ser elegible también por sí mismo, pero un adulto debe de firmar el certificado de elegibilidad si el niño(a) es menor de 14 años.
• El tipo de trabajo relacionado con la agricultura o que sirven para ser elegibles son:
  • Viveros de plantas
  • Industrias pesqueras
  • Lecherías
  • Fábricas de conservas
  • Criaderos
  • Reforestación
• Un niño(a) recibirá los servicios del Programa Migrante por un período de 3 años consecutivos, o hasta que cumpla 22 años de edad o reciba su diploma de la escuela preparatoria o GED.

There are approximately 1,800 migrant students enrolled in Salem-Keizer Public Schools. Currently, we are the largest migrant program school district in the state of Oregon.
