Free Summer Break Meal Program 2022

Starting on Wednesday, June 22, free summer meals will be available to children ages 1-18, as well as Community Transition Program students, at the locations listed below. Meals will be Grab-N-Go Meals this summer. No on-site meals will be served inside schools.

  • Monday-Friday
  • 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.
  • No meals served on July 4

WVP Health Authority will hosting a 3 day FREE vaccine immunization drive-through event.

This is an opportunity to catch children up on vaccines they may be missing, avoid school exclusion day and event get your flu shot!

Salem-Keizer Public Schools Offering Grab and Go Meals at 36 Locations

In keeping with the latest direction from Governor Kate Brown, the Oregon Health Authority and the Oregon Department of Education, Salem-Keizer Public Schools in-person classes will be canceled for the remainder of the 2019-20 school year.

In order to help alleviate food insecurity, we will be offering breakfast and lunch grab and go bags, Monday through Friday, 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at more than 30 locations. Meals are available to any child or teen 18 and under.

Beginning this week, meals may include chicken patties, hamburgers and chicken nuggets. These are fully cooked and are safe to eat or can be reheated. All bagged lunches should be refrigerated within an hour.

Beginning April 27, there will be changes to our meal sites due to bond construction

 South, McNary and Claggett Creek will close. McKinley will open as a meal site to replace South. Parrish will open to replace North. The existing Weddle site will replace the Claggett Creek site and the existing Keizer and Cummings Elementary locations will replace the McNary site.

In addition, Community Action: HOME Youth Services’ Drop-In Center provides three meals a day via the USDA food program to any youth between the ages of 11-18. Food boxes also can be obtained at that location, 625 Union St. NE, Salem.

SKPS will continue to monitor the situation in conjunction with state agencies and will provide updates during the extended break.


Las Escuelas Públicas de Salem-Keizer Ofrecerán Comidas Empacadas para Llevar en 36 Escuelas

En continuidad con los recientes mandatos de la gobernadora Kate Brown, El Departamento de Salud de Oregón, y el Departamento de Educación Estatal, por lo que resta del ciclo escolar 2019-20, todas las clases de las Escuelas Públicas de Salem-Keizer impartidas en persona han sido canceladas.

Salem-Keizer Public Schools to Close March 16-March 31

In keeping with the latest direction from Governor Brown, the Oregon Health Authority and the Oregon Department of Education, Salem-Keizer Public Schools will close March 16 and students will return to school on April 1. All schools will be open Friday, March 13. During the closure, all school-based sports and extracurricular activities will also be cancelled. Additional guidance will be distributed to SKPS staff on Friday, March 13.

Free Meal Sites During School Closures


At this time, staff will be expected to return on Monday, March 30. The state will assess and either confirm or adjust return dates by Wednesday, March 25.

SKPS staff are working on identifying ways to provide meals to students during the break and will have more information about that on Friday.

“Given the seriousness of the current situation, we firmly believe that this decision is the best one we can make given all available information and keeping the best interests of our students, staff, and community at the center,” said Superintendent Christy Perry.

SKPS will continue to monitor the situation in conjunction with state agencies and will provide updates during the extended break.
